Channel Emulator

The DFG Major Research Instrumentation (Großgerät) project supports the acquisition of a radio channel emulator at the Communication Networks chair. This instrument enables realistic and reproducible laboratory simulation of radio channel conditions, making it a cornerstone for developing and validating wireless communication technologies.

Radio Channel Emulator: Purpose and Applications

The radio channel emulator serves as a vital link between theoretical modeling and real-world network performance evaluation. By dynamically simulating diverse and reproducible radio channel conditions in a controlled laboratory environment, it enables rigorous evaluation of emerging wireless technologies across multiple research domains, including Internet-of-Things (IoT) communication systems, highly reliable networking for robotic systems, Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication for autonomous and teleoperated vehicles and robust network slicing under dynamic channel conditions using machine learning approaches.

Research Integration and Interdisciplinary Collaboration

The Communication Networks chair integrates the radio channel emulator into its laboratory infrastructure to advance collaborative research with partners across TU Dortmund University, spanning the faculties of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering. This interdisciplinary approach accelerates innovation in next-generation wireless communications.
